How do you stay strong when the world is falling apart around you?
How do you fight for your child while navigating a system determined to block your every move?
This is the story of our unrelenting battle...not just against leukemia, but against the very institutions that were supposed to support us.
When our son, Blain, was diagnosed with leukemia, we were prepared to give everything. What we didn't expect was a school board that denied the use of my own sick leave to care for him... because leukemia, unlike the measles, wasn't contagious.
In the midst of doctors, hospital rooms, and impossible decisions, we faced another kind of war: red tape, bureaucracy, and a heartbreaking lack of compassion. Through it all, one question burned in my mind: How are we supposed to endure the battles around us while trying to be everything our children need?
A deeply personal, raw, and powerful memoir of love, advocacy, and the cost of standing up when the system says sit down!
Through it all, Blain never quit in life...life quit in him.
Gain hope from Blain's story, our strong warrior child.
