  "Just Saying" Cuts Out All the Niceties by Jan Davis

  “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” - Prov. 18:21

  “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no deceit.” - 1 Pet. 3:10

  “A man has joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it.” - Prov. 15:23

  “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” - Luke 6:45

  “Just saying” has become the modern version of “but.” We are to ignore everything before the but because what we really mean always follows. “Just saying” cuts out all the niceties and gets to the bottom line. We want to believe what we say is important and other people need to hear what’s on our minds. Truth is, if people wanted to know our opinion, they would ask, otherwise we’re only spouting hot air.

  People are quick to give an opinion and speak what is on their minds without giving thought as to how hurtful those words might be. Today, “freedom of speech” is being abused as people become insensitive to the feelings of others and speak their mind, rather than speaking from their hearts. Yes, a strong conviction of our beliefs is important; but, like Christ, we are to have compassion on the lost and share His love. Only God’s love can change the heart of man.

  His Word instructs the believer and demonstrates love to the lost. Christ rebuked the self-righteous leaders of his time, those who thought they were above the law and above reproach. Yet He had compassion on the sinner and through word and deed created in him a new heart.

  As Christians, we are to love the sinner while hating the sin. We have been given the unique opportunity to speak life into a person’s spirit as we share the love of God and His Word. When we speak His Word into a situation it turns desperation into hope. The impossible becomes possible. Today, let the words we speak testify to His forgiveness, love, joy and peace. I love you, but Jesus loves you more. Just saying.
